A big thank you to everyone who participated in the 11th annual Longest Day Walk/Run event on Sunday. And thanks also to those of you who couldn’t make it, but donated anyway!
A special thank you to Melodie from Saint James Music Academy for sharing your passion for your wonderful organization with us. And to Travel Concepts, ToursByLocals, Travel Concepts, and The Travel Group for supplying refreshments. Thanks to all of you, this event keeps getting better and better!
This year’s event was a great success. So far, we have raised $ 2,200.00 for Saint James Music Academy.

Our Friends In Travel (F.I.T.) organizers are committed to finding many more opportunities you and your colleagues in the travel industry to get together and have fun while helping our community. As you know, many F.I.T. alumni flew up to Whitehorse & Dawson City in January this year to raise money for Yukon charities. Look for something exciting later this summer. And, I happen to know that a few lucky F.I.T. members will be participating in the first ever Ultra/Relay Race from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk next May. Contact me for details if you’re interested.
You can be sure that whatever we organize, it will always focus on supporting local causes. The travel industry contributes so much towards making this world a better place; but we can’t forget about the needs in our own back yard!

We had great attendance, excellent weather, and raised a respectable amount of money for our wonderful cause, Saint James Music Academy (SJMA).
If you were there to hear Melodie’s talk, you’ll know that SJMA is more than just a music school in our Downtown Eastside. It feeds, inspires, and provides emotional support for children and young people living in “Canada’s poorest postal code.” It is a privilege to be able to support this wonderful organization.
Historically, Vancouver’s travel industry has supported Downtown Eastside causes for decades. This event is just one example of the significant role people in our industry play in their community.
A special thanks to: Arlene, Dee Dee and Melodie from Saint James Music Academy. Marie from Insight to Wellness, Travel Concepts, Toursbylocals, The Travel Group and all the companies who donated prizes and swag for our 10th anniversary.

2017’s Longest Day fundraiser was a giant success !
Thanks to everyone who sponsored or participated in our 9th annual Longest Day fundraising event. And thank you to all of those who couldn’t make it, but sent a donation !
This was our best event ever in many ways. Outstanding weather, record attendance, and more than double last year’s money raised for our wonderful cause, Saint James Music Academy (SJMA).
For those of you who heard Arlene’s talk, you know that SJMA is more than just a music school in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. It feeds, inspires, and provides emotional support for children and young people in “Canada’s poorest postal code.” It is a great privilege to be able to support this tremendous organization.
You’ll be seeing new branding for our event in the future: Friends In Travel, which sums up what we are all about. Our event is one of the few opportunities for all our friends in the travel industry to get together, have fun and do a bit of good for our community at the same time. Kudos to the many travel agencies, travel companies and friends who want to support the downtown Eastside who have made this all possible.
Next year will be our event’s 10th anniversary. We are planning something really big to celebrate. Stay tuned !
